“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us; And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
The birth of Jesus was a game changer. The impact of His life will be echoed throughout eternity. While there are tons of things to be said about His life, I want to share a couple of truths about His life that changed mine.
1. Jesus Came to Reveal the Father’s Heart
“He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation.” Col. 1:15
Since the beginning, man has been at war with God. Yes you read that correctly! The thought that God is at war with mankind has existed in the hearts of man since the fall. This thought has been maintained even though we see God pursuing mankind throughout history even when rejected. Sin introduced fear and shame to our hearts and caused us to develop a false view of the Father.
“For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.” Rom. 5:8
Jesus came to reveal that the Father didn’t have animosity towards mankind, and to remove the veil that sin placed over our eyes. God loves us because He just does and the life of Jesus echoes that reality in our lives daily.
2. Jesus Came to Bring Joy
“But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people;” Luke 2:10
God is the happiest person I have ever met. He is the epitome of joy and Jesus came to invite us into that same joy! He came to bring us good news of great joy which brings transformation into our lives. This good news awakens us to several truths including that God is not holding our sins against us (2 Cor. 5:19), that He has made us into new creations (2 Cor. 5:17), and that the Father’s heart is to simply be with His kids (John 15:4).
3. Jesus Came to Give Us Authority Over the Devil
“When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him.” Col. 2:15
We are no longer slaves but sons and daughters who have received an inheritance of victory over the devil. Jesus disarmed the devil. What did He disarm? Here Paul is referencing the Law, or the moral code that was hinged upon our ability to be self sufficient in maintaining victory. This was a weapon in the hands of the enemy because it was impossible for us to keep the Law. Through the fulfillment of Jesus not only has the enemy been disarmed but we have received authority over the enemy. We are citizens of heaven and we stand under a superior government. You have been given authority over the power of the enemy and no longer do you have to live as a victim!
Jesus is amazing and the expression of God’s everlasting love that comes through His life is what will bring and continue to bring world transformation.
